🎼What are the different types of music royalties?

There are many types of royalties that can be charged on a song, as the music creation process requires various kinds of work. But, music royalties are majorly earned in three types:

  • Mechanical Royalties - These are charged for the physical or digital reproduction and distribution of copyrighted songs.

  • Sync Royalties - These are applied when the copyrighted music is used to play in the background of a visual and is synced with it. Synchronization licenses give the license holder the right to use copyrighted music in films, television, commercials, video games, online streaming, advertisements, and any other types of visual media.

  • Performance Royalties - These are charged when a copyrighted song is performed, recorded, played, or streamed in public like concerts.
